That will allow them to deploy small cells technology probably for the first time. The company indicated that it is lending a helping hand to enhance the services to boost the tourist economy of the country, as well as, the residents.
Cellular Signals
Alcatel Lucent SA (ADR) (NYSE:ALU) indicated that the small cells provide cellular signals in locations where the existing facility is not sufficient or remains challenged. That might have been due to different reasons. That included geography, interference from buildings, and distance from a cell tower. The company also said that capacity additions would be done wherever necessary. The focus will be on the big number of users.
The small cells will offer an opportunity to AIS to boost the coverage, as well as, the capacity through a cost-effective and efficient way. That was meant to provide improved customer experience for both voice, as well as, high speed data access. The companies hope to do it by having the radio technology nearer to the users.
Expansion
Alcatel Lucent SA (ADR) (NYSE:ALU)’s deployment of small cells in AIS commenced in September last year. So far, 500 units were installed. The company intends to deploy 3,000 units in the current year.
Currently, AIS is selecting the deployment of small cells in shopping malls and popular tourist destinations in Thailand besides the villages and urban environments. The service provider will be in a position to expand its data service quicker besides being economical compared to the conventional cellular networks.
AIS is opted for Alcatel Lucent SA (ADR) (NYSE:ALU)’s small cells since conventional networks take considerable time to install besides being costly. The service provider expects to take advantage of the tourism growth estimated in the current year. January witnessed 2.65 million people visiting the country. That suggested YOY growth of 15.9%. In the remainder of the year also, growth is estimated.
