Netflix Inc (NASDAQ:NFLX) initially offered one or two free movies in the select markets of the US to improve its appeal. Now the American giant is trying to expand its market share across the world by offering original movies and shows for free to non-paying subscribers.

Select TV shows and original movies to checkout

Netflix, the on-demand streaming service, offers few original movies as well as TV shows that include ‘Our Planet’, and ‘When They See Us’ to non-paying customers in 200 territories and nations across the world.

Here is a catch

Netflix offers the first episode of the TV show for free. After that, the viewers need to subscribe to an appropriate plan to watch the rest of the episodes of their favorite shows. However, the users can watch the full-length movies with 30 seconds ads in between and can be skipped though.

A spokesperson of Netflix in a chat with Techcrunch said the company is making different gimmicks to lure the customers and provide them a nice entertainment from its catalog of shows and movies.

Previously Netflix offered the movie `To All The Boys I Have Loved Before’ to non-paying subscribers in the US to attract a new audience. The company holds a subscriber base of 151 million users at the end of Q2 2020.

Netflix also offered a movie ‘Bard of Blood’, which is produced in India, for free to all the users in the US. The company also aired the talk show ‘Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj’ on YouTube to allow free access. However, it is the first time that Netflix offered around 10 movies for free to users worldwide.

How to watch free movies or shows on Netflix?

There is no need for the users to sign up for an account on Netflix to watch free movies or shows. The movies can be accessed for viewing only through a web browser on a PC. Android users can also access free movies using their web browsers. However, it is not available for iOS users as of now.

Leadership change

Bela Bajaria, who will be promoted to Vice President, is stepping into the role of Cindy Holland, who resigned from his post at Netflix.
