Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) Confirms Investment In Wind Energy And India

Dallas, Texas 07/20/2015 (Financialstrend) – Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) is to become a power generating company having announced plans to construct a 208-megawatt wind farm in North Carolina.  The new farm should be able to generate up to 670,000-megawatt hours of wind energy annually by 2016, enough energy to power 61,000 homes. Amazon Web Service reports that the amount of energy generated from the power plant should be able to power the company’s data centers.

 Switching To Renewable Energy Sources

The wind farm in North Carolina will also receive an additional 80 megawatt from a solar farm in Accomack County which is set for production in October of 2016. The solar and wind energy projects are part of Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) plans of switching to renewable energy in the years to come.

The e-commerce giant maintains that 100% of its global infrastructure will be powered by renewable energy in the years to come. In the short term, the company hopes to power 40% of its operations by renewable energy having already serviced 25% of its energy needs by renewable sources.

Amazon Web Services is on course to construct three new data centers in Columbus Ohio expected to spur the company’s demand for more power.

Amazon to Invest $5 Billion in India

Separately Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) is believed to be planning to spend $5 billion in making India its biggest market outside the US. Part of the plans involve adding instant video and subscription-based e-commerce services for high-end buyers.

The e-commerce giant has already confirmed plans to invest $2 billion in expanding its network of warehouses in India. The investments will also be used to boost its data centers as well as beefing up its support of online marketplace to compete better against well-established brands of the likes of Flipkart Snapdeal and Paytm.
