Dallas, Texas 06/09/2015 (Financialstrend) – Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) is eyeing the video games business in a big way. The e-commerce giant is reportedly looking for developers as it gears up for a new PC game project. The company is not new to the gaming business having already made it possible for gamers to play games on its Fire TV set top box.
Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) senior designer, Kim Swift on confirming the development reiterated they are looking for people who are driven to make the best games backed by the latest technology. The current team is not new to the art of developing games. It has already worked on exciting titles such as Half-Life 2, Life for Dead and Halo.
Amazon’s Gaming Ambitions
The use of the latest technology for the gaming project could lead to a licensing deal between the e-commerce giant and Crytek. The deal believed to be worth $70 million is expected to give Amazon the much-needed access to CryEngine 3
Amazon will be looking to leverage the expertise of Clint Hocking for its new project. Hocking joined the company last year and was the brains behind Far Cry 2. The company also has in its ranks gaming studio, Double Helix, which should be of great help on the new PC game project
Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) has in the recent past been looking for other avenues of growth having made its name in the business of selling books. The e-commerce giant is now looking to be a big player in the video games market. Amazon Web services infrastructure should provide the much-needed support on this front.
The purchase of Twitch, a game streaming service, for $970 million was just an indication that the company is not looking to take a back seat in the gaming business. Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) has also partnered GameFly as it moves to offer a cloud-based streaming service.
