Dallas, Texas 05/30/2014 (FINANCIALSTRENDS) – Bridgeport’s 1st Dollar General Corp (NYSE:DG) store has now opened its doors at Fairfield Avenue and it is exactly across the street from the Family Dollar store. This brand-new building, situated at 557 Fairfield Ave has been opened to the general public many weeks ago. The official opening-celebration is to be held on Saturday at 8 and there will be a number of special deals & giveaways. The parking lot of the store faces the Family Dollar store that had been on John Street for a long time now. Both these stores are also hardly a mile away from another Family Dollar store situated on State Street that had opened in 2013.
Competition heats up
The one question that everyone is asking is whether this is competition and whether the rivals will be taken out said a Dollar General cashier, Samantha Miranda. In a way, this kind of competition works well for the city itself said Bridgeport Regional Business Council’s president and CEO, Paul Timpanelli. It’s a very good indicator of the strong buying public in the area and a vital sign of the economic growth here. Timpanelli had noted the popular burger chains like McDonald’s & Burger King are generally found close to one another too.
The difference
He said that the competition is very solid and friendly and it is the American way. The employees & the customers at both these stores noted that there are some notable differences between these 2 brands. While the Dollar General stores sells a wide range of dry & frozen-food products, that lends it a supermarket-like feel, the Family Dollar is more known for its range of clothing & toys, cleaning supplies and paper goods. And so, the community as well as the stores now look forward to the different things that the stores will bring to the neighborhood.
