As 2018 starts, Ford Motor Co (NYSE:F)’s mobility firm is making the move to grow delivery of mobility services and products to customers and enhance shareholder value. As stated at the 2018 CES show, the company’s mobility plan is to offer a broad suite of services and products that improve different layers of the transportation system, infrastructure, connectivity, digital services and vehicles, to reduce the transportation drag on towns and help people move freely in the City of Tomorrow.
Marcy Klevorn, the President of Ford Mobility, expressed that they consider transportation done right as part of a systems plan can bring life back to their cities. By accelerating their delivery of mobility services via the changes they are making today, they are allowing that revival, enhancing their competitiveness and growing long-term value for company’s shareholders. This year, Ford anticipates to launch and accelerate businesses in the areas of transportation operating system, connectivity, ride sharing, non-emergency medical transportation and vehicle management as a service.
Ford Motor’s open, cloud-based platform named the Transportation Mobility Cloud will be expanded beyond company to comprise other automakers, suppliers, cities and partners; a developer network to support and build the system also will be introduced. This system that manages basic transactions and information flow between a variety of elements in the transportation ecosystem.
Preparing to offer digital services to personal, city and fleet clients, Ford’s mobility team will offer on the firm’s commitment of 100% connectivity of new vehicles in the U.S. by 2019 and push toward its objective of 90% connectivity internationally by 2020.
Ford’s acquisition of Autonomic will boost the company’s mission to advance the Transportation Mobility Cloud offering and support its plans to advance other major mobility initiatives, such as the move toward full connectivity. The company also will gain from the Autonomic team’s features in incubating and creating new mobility businesses, and associations that will further enhance Ford’s access to major technology talent.
