Frontier Communications Corp (NASDAQ:FTR) has joined as a participant of two milestone voluntary deals to continue the underway enhancement of the energy efficiency of its routers, modems and set-top boxes.

Pursuant to these deals, the country’s leading broadband service providers, equipment manufacturers and consumer pay-TV entities have assured that 90% of their yearly small network equipment and set-top box retail sales and purchases fulfill rigorous energy-efficiency levels. These deals have saved customers over $2 billion in electric costs and evaded CO2 emissions amounting almost twelve million metric tons since 2013. The signatories initially reported plans to extend the deals into a new term beginning in 2018 and are working to record further enhancements in energy efficiency with the NRDC and the ACEEE.
Frontier serves consumers in 29 states, and is a leading provider of pay-TV video and wireline broadband service in California. Its inclusion boosts the SNE deal’s coverage of the country’s residential broadband Internet industry to 89% from 84%. The company also enhances the set-top box deal’s coverage of the country’s residential pay-TV industry to 93% from 92%. Almost all Americans who enroll to pay-TV or broadband services will gain from the voluntary deals.
Other parties of both voluntary deals comprise AT&T/DIRECTV, CenturyLink, Cablevision, Cable/Bright House Networks, Charter/Time Warner Cox Communications, Verizon and Comcast, and manufacturers Technicolor and ARRIS/Pace. Manufacturers D-Link, Actiontec, Ubee Interactive and NETGEAR have signed the SNE deal.
Frontier Communications is active into the segment of offering communications services to urban, rural and suburban communities in 29 states. It provides a variety of services to residential consumers over its copper and fiber-optic networks, including high-speed internet, video, Frontier Secure® digital protection and advanced voice solutions. Frontier Business provides communications solutions to medium, enterprise and small businesses.
In the last trading session, the stock price of Frontier declined more than 3% to close the day at $8.78.
