Engineers working for IBM corporations are now rigging up new servers that will cool down servers. This decision comes after sales for the IBM Corporation have been increasing over the past months. This new server will ensure that computers won’t become hot or heavy due to excess usage. Due to holiday shopping, the number of online shoppers has increased. However, many customers have experienced delays due to an overload in the network.
Engineers have been working on this server for almost two years now and the Energy Department of the United States has also contributed to this invention. ‘’There are more than 40 million servers in the United States alone, and this is why cooling down the computers can be a serious problem especially when there is a strong demand,’’ said Monica Bryson, IBM’s spokeswoman.
The new cooling system will work by sending water through the pipes that are connected to the semiconductor and microchips. Even though most of these machines already use system that have air-cooling microchips, it was found that water is a stronger medium.
The phenomenon of online shopping is definitely growing and many people are finding it more convenient to shop from the comfort of their own house. The National Federation predict that towards the end of 2012, more than $96 billion worth of merchandise will be purchased. Even after the holidays end, the online world is still busy with gift card redemption and bargain hunting.
IBM conducted a study and found that most online sales were made during Cyber Monday and Black Friday. An increase of 30% in sales was also noted from last year. Technology and social networking websites were shockingly not a reason of why the servers get heated where referrals decreased by 26% from last year. This was very shocking especially that technology websites had a lot of deals going on during the past period.
IBM Corporation didn’t announce when the new servers will start working but it is becoming obvious that it will be released some time towards the end of next year. This will definitely save a lot of consumers’ time that they usually spend on waiting for webpages to open. The Corporation has also advised consumers in the United States to cut down on the amount of web pages they open at the same time. This is very important because many customers open various webpages at the same time, and this is the main reason why webpages slow down.
