iQIYI, Inc (NASDAQ:IQ)’s self-developed Digital Rights Management (DRM) system has been approved by ChinaDRM Lab, the most prestigious DRM organization in China. iQIYI, Inc is an innovative leader in online entertainment services in China.
The approval of the DRM system by ChinaDRM Lab, which is the first for a local internet video platform, is an indication that iQIYI has grown and reached international standards as far as digital rights management are concerned. The company has positioned itself to lead the development of copyright protection in the country. ChinaDRM Lab has been recognized by the American Film Association, Hollywood’s MovieLabs and Hollywood’s “big six.”
Since 2013, iQIYI has been in the field of digital rights management when it started the development of the proprietary DRM system. In 2015, the country’s State Administration for Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT) approved the establishment of ChinaDRM Lab specializing in technology research and creation of content.
In 2017, iQIYI enrolled to become the first member of SAPPRFT’s DRM forum and started using copyright protection solutions approved by ChinaDRM laboratory to monitor and prevent pirating of videos.
After having its self-developed DRM system approved by ChinaDRM, the company has set a new benchmark for copyright management for the country’s video streaming platforms.
Liu Wenfeng, the Chief Technology Officer of iQIYI said that after being approved to join ChinaDRM Lab, the company will be working to promote the use of ChinaDRM standards in the country’s online video industry. He added that the company will set the example by demonstrating the application of the technology.
Liu said that for the past few years, the company has put up a lot of effort and resources in strategic technologies like securing private virtual machines, white-box password algorithms and implemented secure interactive protocols. The company’s self-developed DRM system can be integrated with ChinaDRM standards plus security protections hence effectively protecting video files from being stolen as well as preventing illegal viewing. He added that as opposed to externally purchased DRM systems, the DRM system offers better user experience and more stable performance at reduced cost.
