Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has announced that it will incorporate call recording features on Skype. The move comes 15 years since Skype was introduced. Of importance to note is that Skype is not coming up with its own call recording software. The feature will use third-party apps like Vmix, Wirecast and Xsplit. For several years, these products, plus many others have allowed Skype users to record Skype calls, but as it sounds, Microsoft wants to incorporate a more streamlines version of the feature.
Users of Mac and Windows 10 will be in a position to record calls after they turn their desktop Skype clients to “Content Creators” mode. This is a new version that has been designed for streamers, vloggers as well as those who create podcasts.
Users can choose the third-party software they want to use. Additionally, Skype has been updated so that it can allow integration of more than one software. Skype is reinevting itself so that in future, users can use it to stream live calls on Twitch stream or YouTube channels. The new version also allows users to transfer videos to editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro.
Although Microsoft has not openly mentioned it, there are several people who will find the new feature very useful. Several situations will also find this feature very helpful. These include business meetings that don’t have notetakers, news reporters making calls to international sources among others.
One may wonder why it took exceedingly long for Skype to officially recognize how important this feature can be even if it means partnering with third-party app maker which already allows the feature. Several new products like Google Hangouts and Zoom allow users to record calls.
In a blog post, Microsoft said the new feature will allow users to customize the feel and look so that they are able to be part of a live show and ready for streaming to audiences of different sizes
Skype will be launching the new call recording feature next week at the NAB which will take place in Las Vegas. Microsoft intends to have the new feature fully released in the coming summer.
