Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) has announced the much-anticipated return of Pee-wee Herman with his new feature, ‘Pee-wee’s Big Holiday’.
The online TV content streaming firm announced that the long-awaited full-length film will launch in March 2016. The company has not released further details about the movie, but it did mention a few important details. The film will be about Pee-wee’s decision to take his first ever holiday after a momentous meeting with a mysterious stranger. The holiday sparks an epic story that is all about destiny and friendship.
Paul Reuben posted photos some photos from the movie on his Pee-wee Herman Twitter handle and judging by the minor hints, the holiday destination might be New York. The film will feature Paul Reuben, Joe Manganiello and Alia Shawkat. The film will be the third installment of the Pee-wee movies after ‘Pee-wee’s Big Adventure’ and ‘Big Top Pee-wee.’ It will also mark Reuben’s first use of the character since 2010 during the Pee-wee Herman stage show.
The new Pee-wee film will be among a few other movies that the company will distribute itself. It is part of Netflix’s strategy to venture into theatrical distribution for its streaming platform as well as theaters. Some Cinemas have already pushed back the films due to the tight schedules and negotiations. Some of the other titles to be released by Netflix include Cary Fukunaga’s Beasts of No Nation, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend, and Adam Sandler’s new comedy The Ridiculous Six. The latter will only be available on Netflix and will not air in cinemas. The Hidden Dragon: The Green Legendfilm was pushed back from its original release date in October. Instead, it has been rescheduled for early 2016.
Pee-wee’s Big Holiday will be released in March 2016. Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) plans to release at least one film every three months. The company has a few other film projects it is working on as part of the overall strategy to introduce more of its original content on the platform.
