Dallas, Texas 07/14/2015 (Financialstrend) – Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX) has embarked on an initiative that seeks to empower more than 100,000 disadvantaged youths between the ages of 16 and 24. The initiative seeks to offer apprenticeships, internships, as well as training opportunities for the youths, most of whom cannot get jobs at the moment.
Part Time and Permanent Jobs on Offer
Joining Starbucks in implementing the initiative dubbed ‘100,000 Opportunity Youth’ are Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE:WMT), Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) and Target Corporation (NYSE:TGT). The companies have also reiterated commitments to offer part-time and full-time jobs to youths who continue to face systematic barriers to jobs and education.
More than 5.6 million youths in the age bracket of 16 and 24 years are out of school with nothing to do as most of them cannot find jobs. Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX) CEO, Howard Schultz maintains that by creating pathways to affordable education and meaningful employment opportunities, they are strengthening the workforce and the economy.
The ‘100,000 Opportunity Youth’ comes on the heels of Walmart reiterating plans to spend more American produced goods. The move is expected to bolster the manufacturing sector in the country, which should result in an increase in employment opportunities. Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX) has already announced plans to hire at least 10,000 veterans and spouses by the end of 2018.
Starbuck Millenials Workforce
The initiative should be up and running on August 13 with participating companies expected to train more than 2000 youth with at least 200 expected to get instant job offers. The group plans to hire at least 1,000 youth in Chicago over the next 18 months with Hip-hop artist Common expected to host the Chicago job fair.
Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX) boasts of having the highest workforce made of millennials as it spearheads plans to hire at least 10,000 youth over the next three years. Most of the youth to be hired should be eligible for the company’s full tuition reimbursement program that accords staff an opportunity to pursue a bachelor’s program at the Arizona state university.
