Zynga Inc (NASDAQ:ZNGA) has paid a total of $42.5 million to acquire four famous Solitaire smartphine games. The games were originally made by Harpan LLC. This is according to the company’s latest filing at the Securities and Exchange Commission.
This is the first step in Zynga’s plan to acquire Harpan LLC, a famous gaming company. Harpan LLC is owned and operated by two brothers Tim Oswald based in Austin and William who is based in Chicago. The transaction automatically makes the two brothers millionaires.
Details of the transaction as well as Zynga’s filings at the Securities and Exchange Commission were first reported by Seeking Alpha.
According to analyst company App Annie, Solitaire, which is Haropan’s flagship application, is the number one and most preferred game on the Apple iOS App Store. The game has occasionally features in the top ten games overall. It is a free game supported by advertising and described as having clear graphics as well as a straightforward layout.
Harpan has also developed three more card-based games FreeCell, Pyramid Solitaire and Spider Solitaire. They all offer the same aesthetic. All the games can be accessed through the Android and iOS smartphones.
In addition to Harpan, Oswalds also owns “Tim O’s Studios.” It is listed separately as an app developer on the Apple App Store. It is engaged in making simple games and apps like “Guitar Tuner” and “Calculator%.”
During his latest appearance on stage at a Morgan Stanley event, Frank Gibeau, the Chief Executive Officer of Zynga talked about Harpan. He explained how Harpan fits I well into his company’s strategy of investing more into social card games that are supported by advertising.
