There is no doubt about it that NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) has small pool of the self-driving test cars, but despite that it remains to be one of the companies globally with the largest technology foot print in the transportation sector.
This reality came to the limelight after an accident occurred recently involving an Uber car which left an Arizona woman lifeless. NVIDIA has with immediate effect ordered for a temporary pause of its self-driving cars activities.
It is worth noting that for over quite some time now the technology guru has been focusing on coming up with its own sensing technology. Even with that said, the company’s team is looking forward to learning all that it could from Uber’s unfortunate incident. Fundamentally, that is what remarkable engineering practice is all about.
But it was in NVIDIA’s annual GPU Technology Conference that the company kept stressing on the great need for the adoption of the autonomous driving to road safety as well as to the wide array of transportation undertakings. It is indeed true that the autonomous vehicles and the commercially viable AI systems won’t be hitting the markets very soon.
But even with that said NVIDIA stands out as the pioneer in AI transportation solutions and in its latest statement it made it known that it would be collaborating with 370 partners in making the final touches on the autonomous vehicles.
NVIDIA had much to say about the autonomous vehicles at GTC, but it mostly dwelt on the DRIVE Constellation Simulation System which happens to be a full-fledged simulation platform. The DRIVE Sim software, a simulator leveraging on the eight GPUs and a Pegasus AI computer are basically the major attributes of the diverse platform.
The notable attribute is that each GPU is designed in such a way it can help with the simulation of the various sensor functions. At times there is the need to set the configurations appropriately as well as boost the amount of sensor data. Achieving this requires the use of multiple simulators. It is all about taking the appropriate steps to safeguard human lives as well as ensure that the vehicles are left in a good condition.
